Borneo- Sabah 2000
Borneo is the world's largest island. This visit was to Sabah State, which belongs to Maylasia. Most of these pictures are near Kota Kinabalu, with some on the jungle-slopes of Mt. Kinalbalu. Two other states on Borneo are Indonesia and Brunei. The red-furred animals are orangutans, which have four arms and hands, and used to be called "The Wild Man of Borneo." They hardly ever touch the ground and took great pleasure in peeing on tourists passing below. The entire population of Sabah is moderate Muslim. Note that the girls go to school, but must wear head scarves in high school. Fishing is the primary occupation. The Japanese occupied Borneo during WW II, but they never penetrated the jungle. Squads entering the jungle never came back. Japanese rule was brutal.
