This is the Mariamman Teppakkulam tank. We hit it on the day of the Teppam (Float) Festival. The "tank" is dry and serves as a cricket field most of the year, but it is flooded for the Float Festival. The temple you see to the rear of the stairs is on pontoons and contains the effigy of the local god (not the son of the Chief Minister), and at the appointed hour, with much fanfare and music so loud that your clothing vibrates, it goes on a circumnavigation of the tank, around the permanent island temple (off screen on the left).
